iOS 17 Release Date & Time: What You Need to Know is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

If you’re curious about the iOS 17 release date for iPhone, allow us to guide you through everything you need to know about it right now.

Apple’s confirmed iOS 17, the next operating system for the iPhone. The software is currently in development and it will bring new features, enhancements, and more to compatible iPhone models.

We don’t have a firm iOS 17 release date from Apple yet, but we have a pretty good idea about what to expect from the release window and release time.

Our iOS 17 release date guide we’ll help you properly manage expectations and help you prepare for its release for iPhone later on this year.

Which iPhones Will Get iOS 17?

Apple’s confirmed a full list of iOS 17 eligible iPhone models and most iOS 16-powered devices will make the move to the new operating system.

Unfortunately, three older iPhone models will stay put on iOS 16: iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus. This is final and it won’t change. Below is a list of eligible iPhones that will get upgraded to iOS 17:

iOS 17 Supported Devices

  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini

  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max

iOS 17 Beta Release Date

The official version of iOS 17 won’t land for awhile, but you can try the new operating system out long before the final version arrives.

There are two versions of the iOS 17 beta. There’s the developer beta and then there’s an as-of-yet unreleased beta for users registered for the Beta Software Program.

The company’s pushed the iOS 17 beta to developers while the public iOS 17 beta will arrive in July. Apple hasn’t provided a specific date.

iOS 17 Beta Release Time

Apple usually pushes new beta software every couple of weeks with releases coming a bit more frequently as we approach the final release.

Like regular iOS releases, the company likes to release new iOS beta software around 10AM Pacific and that’s what you should expect from the iOS 17 beta.

iOS 17 Release Date

The iOS 17 beta will stretch for several months. We can’t predict how many versions of the beta we’ll see, but we should see at least six updates arrive before Apple pushes the final version of the beta, also known as the Golden Master (GM).

Apple usually pushes new iOS operating systems in September and that’s what you should expect from the iOS 17 release date right now.

Look for the iOS 17 release date to get confirmed on stage during Apple’s fall iPhone event for the upcoming iPhone 15 series (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max). The iPhone 15 series will run iOS 17 out of the box.

The iOS 17 release date for older iPhone models will land sometime between the iPhone 15 launch date and the iPhone 15 release date later on in the month.

iOS 17 Release Time

Apple probably won’t confirm a specific iOS 17 release time, but the company almost always releases its software updates around 10AM Pacific on release day.

This means if you live in London, England you should see the iOS 17 update around 6PM in the evening. If you live in Melbourne, Australia, you’ll need to stay up late or wake up early if you want to install iOS 17 right when it’s released.

Major iOS releases like iOS 17 are often plagued with download issues as Apple’s servers get slammed with requests from eager iPhone users. Those of you looking to avoid download issues and error codes should wait a few hours before installing the iOS 17 update.

Trying new features before they are officially released is exciting, but that's just part of it. Using the iOS 17 beta will also help Apple squash issues before they reach millions of iPhone users around the world.

Your feedback about the iOS 17 beta's performance could help the company discover a nasty bug or a glitch ahead of the final release later this year.

If you're sick of dealing with issues or sick of hearing friends and family complain about problems, think about giving the iOS 17 beta a try.

If you decide to download the iOS 17 beta and find an issue on board, make sure you report it to Apple. This way, engineers can get to work on a permanent fix.

The macOS Sonoma release date is still a few months away, but some Mac users might want to start preparing for the software’s arrival right now.

macOS Sonoma, also known as macOS 14, is Apple’s next major upgrade for Mac devices. The operating is set to bring numerous changes to select Mac models. Changes on board include new screen savers, widgets on the desktop, improvements to video conferencing, and a whole lot more.

The macOS Sonoma beta is available to those with a developer account. In July, Apple will push it to those enrolled in the company’s public Beta Software Program.

If you want to try macOS Sonoma’s new features and enhancements on your Mac, but don’t want to wait for the official release date, you might want to give the software spin ahead of its official release date.

macOS Sonoma is currently in beta testing, Apple’s on its second iteration of the software, and the firmware’s official release date will land sometime in the fall. We suspect it will arrive in October after Apple pushes iOS 17 to the iPhone.

With the macOS Sonoma release date on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about the upgrade. In this guide we’ll outline some tips and tricks that will come in handy as we close in on the software’s release.

Prepare for the macOS Sonoma Release Date

With the macOS Sonoma on the way, you might want to start doing some prep work.

macOS Sonoma will likely require a sizable chunk of space on your Mac’s internal storage. New macOS operating systems typically do.

If your Mac is getting low on storage, make sure you take the time to cleanup your storage. Go into your Mac’s storage and delete files you no longer need. This will help make room for macOS Sonoma. It could also improve your Mac’s performance.

You should also start backing up the important data you store on your Mac. Data loss issues are rare, but there’s always a chance something goes wrong during the transition from your current version of macOS to macOS Sonoma.

The installation process may also log you out of some of your apps and services. We recommend having your Apple ID, iCloud information, third-party app login info handy just in case it does.

Get Familiar with macOS Sonoma

If you don’t plan to install the macOS Sonoma beta on your Mac(s), you should get familiar with the changes coming with the software.

Apple’s released a guide that will walk you through most of the changes on board the new operating system. It’s a great starting point.

If you’re still hanging around on an older version of macOS and you don’t have plans to upgrade to the latest version(s) of macOS, make sure you get familiar with newer versions of macOS as well. You’ll get those changes when you upgrade to macOS Sonoma later this year.

For more on the latest version of macOS, check out our macOS Ventura walkthrough.

Avoid the macOS Sonoma Beta

You might be tempted to install the macOS Sonoma beta on your Mac, but most people should avoid the beta and wait for the official release.

The macOS Sonoma beta will help Apple tackle bugs and performance issues before they become headaches for millions of Mac users around the world.

It’s also fun to try out new features before they’re released to the general public. That said, beta software can be extremely problematic.

The macOS Sonoma beta is causing problems for testers and you could run into some of these very same issues if you install it on your Mac.

If you rely on your Mac to get through a day of school or work, you’ll probably want to stay put on whatever version of macOS you’re currently running.

Monitor Feedback from the Beta

If you skip the macOS Sonoma beta, and again most people should, make sure you monitor feedback from beta testers as we push toward the software’s official release in the fall.

Monitoring this feedback will keep you up-to-date about the software’s potential problems and it will also alert you to its potential benefits. More importantly, it might help you decide if you want to install macOS Sonoma on you Mac right away or wait.

We’ve seen macOS Sonoma feedback emerge on sites like YouTube, the MacRumors forums, and social media sites like Twitter. Check those sites if you’re curious about the software’s performance.

macOS Sonoma Release Time

If you’ve owned a Mac or any other Apple device for awhile, you already know this.  For those of you who are new Apple’s ecosystem, here’s your PSA.

Apple almost always rolls software updates out around 10AM Pacific. This will be the case for macOS Sonoma beta updates, and it will likely be the case for the final version of macOS Sonoma.

Here’s what that looks like for other time zones in the United States:

  • Eastern – 1 PM
  • Central – 12 PM
  • Mountain – 11AM

Keep this in mind if you plan to install new versions of the macOS Sonoma beta, or the final version of macOS Sonoma, right away.

macOS Sonoma Download Size

We don’t know how big the macOS Sonoma download will be, but again, you can expect it to require quite a bit of free space on your Mac.

You can expect long download times, especially in the minutes after Apple pushes the update live. Plan accordingly. We’ll let you know when we learn more.

Prepare for macOS Sonoma Problems

macOS Sonoma will go through Apple’s extensive beta process, but the final version won’t be perfect. Far from it.

Common macOS problems include abnormal battery drain, Bluetooth issues, Wi-Fi problems, app instability, UI lag, crashes, and Exchange issues.

These problems appear after every single macOS release and we’ll probably see them emerge in the minutes, hours, days, and weeks after the macOS Sonoma release date.

It will be difficult to predict what kind of performance you’ll get out of your Mac once you move to macOS Sonoma so you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared to tackle issues you encounter on day one and beyond.

We’ve released a list of fixes for common macOS problems. If you don’t consider yourself a macOS expert, you’ll want to bookmark these fixes.

You’ll also want to bookmark or follow Apple Support on Twitter and the support page on the company’s website. You should also get familiar with Apple’s Discussion forums.

Learn How to Downgrade

If you run into into issues with macOS Sonoma, you will be able to downgrade back to an older version of macOS. Unlike iOS, Apple won’t close the downgrade path back to older software.

If you aren’t familiar with the macOS downgrade process, use this time to get familiar with it.

Keep Your Apps Updated

If you want the best possible experience on macOS Sonoma, make sure you keep your apps updated before, and after, the software’s release date. These updates should help stabilize performance and help your device make a smooth transition to new software.

Before you download an app update, make sure you read reviews from other users. These reviews will alert you to potential benefits and problems with the latest version.

Take Your Time with macOS Sonoma

macOS Sonoma is an exciting upgrade and some of you might be tempted to install it on your Mac on the day it arrives.

For some of you, particularly those dealing with macOS Ventura problems, that might be the correct move. However, some of you will be better off waiting a few hours or a few days before installing the operating system.

There are plenty of reasons to skip macOS software updates on day one. macOS updates can wreak havoc on your Mac’s overall performance.

If you’re feeling leery, dig into feedback from Mac users who download macOS Sonoma right away. If you’re still undecided, think about waiting.

macOS Sonoma Beta Problems: 5 Things You Need to Know is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

The macOS Sonoma beta is plagued by a variety of bugs and performance issue which means those of you weighing a move to the pre-release software should proceed with caution.

Apple’s pushed its next macOS operating system into beta testing and macOS Sonoma, also known as macOS 14, will stay there until the stable release is ready in the fall.

The macOS Sonoma beta includes new features and performance enhancements which means there are plenty of reasons to give it a try on your Mac.

On the flip side, the macOS Sonoma beta has its fair share of problems. This isn’t surprising given that it’s unfinished software and pre-release software is almost always riddled with issues.

Those of you who are interested in trying the macOS Sonoma beta need to understand what you’re getting into before you tap download. And those of you using the beta need to know where to find fixes and ongoing feedback about the software’s performance.

In this guide we’ll take you through the current state of macOS Sonoma beta problems. We’ll also provide you with a list of resources that might come in handy if you run into issues on your Mac.

macOS Sonoma Beta Problems

Apple’s acknowledges a number of issues with the macOS Sonoma beta on its website. Developers have also encountered a variety of other bugs and performance issues.

We’re hearing about the following macOS Sonoma beta problems:

  • Installation and download problems
  • FaceTime issues
  • Wi-Fi connectivity issues
  • Crashes,
  • UI lag,
  • Problems with first and third-party applications
  • Bluetooth issues

Apple will fix some of these issues in future versions of the beta, but some problems could linger on throughout the beta testing process. Some might even make it into the final release.

You can’t predict what problems you’ll run into during your time on the macOS Sonoma beta and that’s why we recommend doing some prep work before you install the software on your Mac.

Where to Find Feedback

If you recently installed the macOS Sonoma beta or if you’re thinking about downloading it, make sure you keep an eye on feedback from other Mac users. Their feedback will give you a glimpse at the most prominent issues as well as the beta’s potential benefits.

If you’re using an older Mac, you’ll want to dig into feedback before you jump from macOS Monterey/macOS Ventura to Sonoma. New software can wreak havoc on older computers.

There are a few places to check for macOS Sonoma beta feedback. You can check YouTube for information about the software’s performance.

Apple’s official discussion forums are another resource to bookmark. We also recommend monitoring feedback from the MacRumors forums. You’ll also want to check Facebook and Twitter.

How to Fix macOS Sonoma Beta Problems

Again, some macOS Sonoma beta problems will require a fix from Apple in a future beta release. That being said, you should be able to fix some issues on your own.

We’ve put together a list of fixes for the most common macOS problems and it’s a good starting point if you encounter problems with key components like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

If you’re experiencing weird battery drain, check out our guide to fixing bad macOS battery life. It should help you improve it in a matter of minutes.

If you don’t find what you’re looking for in our guides, we recommend getting in touch with the community on Apple’s discussion forums or with Apple via its customer support account on Twitter.

Downgrade from macOS Sonoma Beta

If you run into major issues on the macOS Sonoma beta, you can downgrade your Mac’s software. You’ll always be able to downgrade back to stable software, that won’t change during the beta testing period.

Downgrading will take some time, so you’ll need to stay patient, but it’s an option if you can’t fix your issues or if you can’t wait for Apple’s next beta release.

What’s Next

Apple will periodically release new versions of the macOS Sonoma beta. New betas will bring bug fixes, but they’ll also bring problems of their own.

The company typically releases new beta software every other week and then every week once we get closer to the Golden Master and final release in the fall. New macOS betas are usually released around 10AM Pacific.

The final version of macOS Sonoma should arrive in September or October after the company confirms the 2023 iPhones, also known as the iPhone 15 series.

9 Things to Do Before Installing macOS Ventura 13.4.1 is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

You might be tempted to install Apple’s new macOS Ventura 13.4.1 update right away, there are some steps you should take before moving your Mac from your current version of macOS to the company’s latest firmware.

macOS Ventura 13.4.1 is a point release and it includes security upgrades for Mac devices. It’s an important update and Mac users running macOS Ventura should install it in the near future.

That being said, it’s difficult to predict how Apple’s latest firmware will impact your Mac’s performance.

While some users could see improvements, others will run into frustrating bugs and performance issues. That’s why we recommend doing some prep work before clicking install. A little work ahead of time could help you avoid serious issues.

With that in mind, we want to help you prepare for the transition from your current version of macOS to macOS Ventura 13.4.1.

Learn About macOS Ventura 13.4.1

Get acquainted with macOS Ventura 13.4.1’s changes before you install the software on your Mac.

It’s never a good idea to blindly install software on devices you use the most. It’s important to get familiar with the changes on board the firmware so you aren’t caught off guard once the installation process finishes up.

Before you download macOS Ventura 13.4.1, familiarize yourself with all of the changes on board. We’ve released a walkthrough that goes over the most important things to know about the software right now.

If you’ll be moving up to the software from macOS Monterey or older software, you should also check out our full length guide covering macOS Ventura.

Decide If You’re Upgrading or Doing a Clean Install

There are two ways to install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your Mac. You can simply upgrade and keep everything in place or you can do a clean install if you decide you want to start from scratch.

The upgrade option is the easiest route and it’s the one most Mac users should take. This keeps all your files, apps and photos in place and takes the least amount of time. That being said, it can cause problems and it also keeps the clutter stored on your internal storage.

If you don’t regularly remove unneeded files from your Mac, a clean install will wipe your drive clean and free up space. It will only install the apps and files you need.

You can do a clean installation using this guide. Before you undertake this process, make sure you back up all your important files.

Backup Your Data

Be sure to backup all of the files on your Mac before you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your device.

Before you download the latest firmware, make sure your important files are backed up to the cloud. We also recommend having a local Time Machine Backup handy.

If you run into problems with the macOS Ventura 13.4.1 installation, you can restore from a backup and be up and running on older macOS software pretty quickly.

From there, you can try installing macOS Ventura 13.4.1 again or try and troubleshoot the issue.

Make Sure You Know Your Passwords

Before you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your Mac, make sure you have all of your passwords handy/properly stored.

When you restart your Mac after installing macOS Ventura 13.4.1, you will need to log in to your computer and you also may need to log into your Apple account and applications as well.

We recommend using a password manager like LastPass, 1Password or even Apple’s built-in manager to store this information for you.

If you don’t want to use these, make sure you test logging into your Apple account and your email.

Dig Into macOS Ventura Feedback

If you’re feeling a bit leery about the move to macOS Ventura 13.4.1, and we don’t blame you if you are, you should sift through feedback from Mac users running the software.

There’s always a chance you encounter bugs and/or performance issues on your Mac after moving to Apple’s latest update. You can’t really predict what you might encounter.

Software updates typically hit older Mac models the hardest so if you own an aging device, and you’re concerned about the move to this update, you’ll want to track down feedback from those who have it installed.

You’ll want to poke around on Apple’s discussion forums, YouTube, and social media sites like Reddit and Twitter for feedback from macOS Ventura users.

Some of you might want to wait for long-term feedback to emerge before committing. And others might even want to wait for Apple to roll out new macOS Ventura software.

Prepare for Problems

macOS Ventura 13.4.1 went through testing behind the scenes, but some Mac users have run into bugs and performance issues.

Mac users are complaining about a variety of issues ranging from abnormal battery drain to issues with first and third-party applications.

If you don’t have an encyclopedia of fixes stored inside your head, you’ll want to track down solutions and have them handy just in case you run into an issue after the installation.

To help you get started, have a look at our list of fixes for the most common macOS Ventura problems. We’ve also released a guide that will help you fix macOS Ventura battery life issues.

Check App Reviews, Compatibility and Install Updates

If you rely on your Mac’s application to get through the day, you should read app reviews before you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your device. At the very least you’ll want to dig into feedback about the apps you use the most.

App developers are rolling out macOS Ventura support updates. These updates will be crucial to your experience on the new software.

Before you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your Mac, head into the App Store and read reviews from other users. If reviews are mostly positive, you may want to go ahead and install the latest update(s).

If the feedback is negative, you might want to wait for a new version of macOS Ventura or for the developer to update the application(s).

Talk to IT

If you use your Mac for work you may want to check with your IT team (if you have one) and make sure you’re got the green light to install macOS Ventura 13.4.1.

Enterprise problems plague every single version of macOS and they can be particularly nasty after Apple releases brand new macOS software.

If you depend on your device to get work done, it’s important to get in touch with IT to see if the update is safe to use. If you’ve got an IT department, they should be able to provide you with feedback about your core apps and services.

If you don’t have an IT department or a tech on site, you might want to ask around the office or talk to friends who use the same services and see how they’re doing on the software.

Learn About the Downgrade Process

You should familiarize yourself with the downgrade process before you download macOS Ventura 13.4.1.

If you run into problems, apps that don’t work, battery life issues, or just don’t like the new update, you can downgrade to older macOS software. It’s a lot easier than downgrading iOS and there’s no limit to how far back you can go.

The easiest way to do this is to restore a Time Machine Backup that you made right before installing the macOS Ventura 13.4.1 update. If you made a backup, this will help get your Mac running on an older version of macOS very quickly.

Here’s more on how to downgrade macOS software to an older version.

Apple’s macOS Ventura 13.4.1 update could take a long time to download and install on your Mac. The amount of time depends on your Mac model and the version of macOS it’s currently running.

The company’s released a new version of macOS Ventura and macOS Ventura 13.4.1 is available to download right now if you own a model that’s compatible with Apple’s newest macOS operating system. You can find a list of compatible Mac models right here.

If you’ve downloaded macOS software before you know how long an update can take, particularly when moving from one operating system to another. It can be rather torturous, especially if you rely on your computer to get through the day.

If you’re moving you Mac from macOS Ventura 13.4 to macOS Ventura 13.4.1, you’ll get the least amount of changes and the smallest download size.

If you’re moving from older macOS software like macOS Monterey, you’ll get the full suite of macOS Ventura features and a much lengthier installation process.

We can’t tell you exactly how long the macOS Ventura 13.4.1 installation process will take on your computer because it will vary. That being said, we can help you approximate how much time you should set aside should you choose to install the firmware on your device.

And if your macOS Ventura 13.4.1 download is going a little slower than it should be, we can help you attempt to speed it up so you can get back to using your computer.

You can find the software on Apple’s App Store. Open up the App Store on your Mac and type in “macOS Ventura” in the search bar to find it. From there, click on the “Get” button and the download process will begin.

You can also find the software in your Mac’s Settings app. Open up your Settings app and look for the “Software Update” icon. It’s the gear icon that looks like the Settings app icon. Once you see a popup, click “Upgrade Now” and the process will start.

Prepare for the macOS Ventura 13.4.1 Update

Before you start the upgrade process, be sure to prepare your Mac for the download. A little prep work ahead of time can prevent serious issues.

If this is your first Mac or if you’re unsure about where to start, take a look at our pre-installation guide. It will walk you through the most important steps to take before you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1.

You might be able to get through all of these steps in 30 minutes or less, but it all depends on your skill level and the current state of your Mac. If you haven’t backed up your data in a long time, the pre-installation process could take a lot longer.

You don’t need to follow every single step in our guide, but you will, at the very least, want to make sure all of your important files are backed up. Data loss issues are fairly rare, but if you store sensitive data on your Mac it’s better to be safe than sorry.

macOS Ventura 13.4.1 Download

Once you’re prepared, it’s now time to start the download process. Again, the exact size of your macOS Ventura 13.4 download will depend on your Mac model and the version of macOS it’s running.

If you’re currently running the latest version of macOS Ventura and you’re connected to a fast Wi-Fi network, the download could finish up in less than 10 minutes.

If your connection is slower, you’re downloading at peak hours, or if you’re jumping up from much older macOS software, you might encounter a much longer download process.

You can approximate the time it takes to download macOS Ventura using our chart above or with tools like this.

How to Make macOS Download Go Faster

The macOS Ventura 13.4.1 download isn’t huge, but it could still take awhile to complete. You may see long download times during peak hours, but there are some things you can try if your download is taking too long or if it gets stuck.

If for some reason your download gets stuck midway through the process, you’ll want to abandon the download and try again.

If the download speed is abnormally slow, try plugging your ethernet cable directly into your Mac. (Note: You may need an adapter to do this.)

If those steps don’t work, you should try restarting your router. Unplug your router, wait a minute or two, and plug it back in and see if the download speeds up.

If you’re tired of dealing with slow download speeds, you might want to upgrade your router. If you’re interested, take a look at the TP-Link AX3000 or Netgear AX1800.

macOS Ventura 13.4.1 Installation

Once your Mac is done pulling macOS Ventura 13.4.1 from Apple’s servers, the installation process will begin. In some cases, this could take longer than the download process.

If you’re moving up from the latest version of macOS Ventura, your installation could take in and around 10 minutes to complete. If you’re moving up from macOS Monterey or older, it could take a lot longer.

Your Mac might reboot itself a couple of times during the installation process, but this is perfectly normal. Your device should boot up normally once the installation process completes.

Post-Installation

After the update process finishes, you might need to spend time logging into iCloud, Apple Pay, and your device’s various applications.

You also might want to spend time checking your important data (photos, music, etc) to make sure it carried over properly during the process.

After you do that, make sure you test your core applications and services to ensure they’re working normally. If you notice an issue with one or more of your applications, try downloading the latest version from the App Store.

You’ll also want to poke around your Mac for bugs and performance issues. If you notice something take a look at our list of fixes for common macOS problems.

macOS Ventura 13.4.1 is a point release and it brings a new batch of important security patches to Mac devices.

If you’re still lingering on macOS Monterey or older software, macOS Ventura 13.4.1 includes all of the features from Apple’s latest operating system. If that’s the case, the software could take quite a bit of time to install so keep that in mind if you use your computer for work or school.

If you install macOS Ventura 13.4.1 on your Mac, and you run into issues, you can downgrade your Mac’s software in an attempt to improve its performance. Unlike iOS and iPadOS, the macOS downgrade is always open.

If you’re currently debating a move to macOS Ventura 13.4.1, allow us to walk you through the best reasons to install the software today and the best reasons to hang around on older macOS Ventura software, macOS Monterey, or whatever version of macOS your Mac is currently running for a bit longer.

This will take some time, so you’ll need to remain patient, but it’s an option if you can’t wait for Apple to release the next version of macOS Ventura.

Next macOS Ventura Update

If your Mac is struggling on macOS Ventura, help is on the way.

Apple’s confirmed a new macOS Ventura 13.5 update and the software is currently in beta testing ahead of its public release. We expect the software to arrive in July.

If you can’t/don’t want to wait for the official release date, you might try downloading the macOS Ventura 13.5 beta and see if it helps resolve the issues you’re experiencing on your Mac.

5 Things to Know About the iOS 16.6 Update is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

Apple’s confirmed a new iOS 16.6 update for iPhone and the software is currently in beta testing ahead of an official release later this year.

iOS 16.6 is a milestone upgrade which means it should bring more than just bug fixes and security patches to iPhone users. It should deliver some new features as well.

Apple hasn’t confirmed the iOS 16.6 release date yet and it will likely stay in beta for the foreseeable future. If you don’t want to wait for the stable release, you can try an early version of the software on your iPhone right now.

With all of that in mind, we want to walk you through everything there is to know, right now, about the next major iOS 16 update for iPhone.

In this guide we’ll take you through the iOS 16.6 update’s known changes, what you can expect from the iOS 16.6 release date and release time, information about the iOS 16.6 beta, and more.

iOS 16.6 Beta

If you want to start using iOS 16.6 on your iPhone right now, you can.

Apple’s pushed the iOS 16.6 beta to developers which means those enrolled in the company’s developer program can download a pre-release version of the firmware right now.

The company’s also pushed the iOS 16.6 beta to those enrolled in the Beta Software Program. A developer account requires an annual fee while the Beta Software Program is free to anyone with a compatible device and working Apple ID.

Before you download the iOS 16.6 beta, note that Apple’s pre-release software is always plagued with bugs and performance issues.

These issues could impact the performance of your core apps, your iPhone’s battery life, and its overall speed which can make it tricky to use as a daily driver.

You should be able to fix some problems on your own, but some bugs and performance issues will probably require a fix from Apple down the road.

If you can’t stand the iOS 16.6 beta’s performance on your iPhone, you can downgrade back to iOS 16.5.1 or iOS 16.5. The downgrade path to other iOS firmware is closed.

Apple is currently on iOS 16.6 beta 3.

iOS 16.6 Release Date

Apple hasn’t confirmed the iOS 16.6 release date.

As of right now we expect iOS 16.6 to hit iPhones sometime in July ahead of iOS 17’s arrival in the fall. iOS 17 should arrive in September which means iOS 16.6 will almost certainly be the last major update for the iOS 16 operating system.

For more about the iOS 16.6 release date, check out our guide.

iOS 16.6 Release Time

We don’t have an official iOS 16.6 release date yet, but we know exactly when Apple will roll the software out on the date it chooses.

The official version of iOS 16.6 will most likely arrive in and around 10AM Pacific. It sometimes takes a few minutes for iOS updates to show up so there’s no need to worry if you don’t see new software right away.

Apple will also release iOS 16.6 beta updates for developers, and those enrolled in the Beta Software Program, around 10AM Pacific as well. The company typically releases new betas every 1-2 weeks.

Keep this timeline in mind if you plan to install new iOS 16.6 betas, or the official version of iOS 16.6, right away.

iOS 16.6 Features

Apple’s milestone updates (x.x) almost always bring new features, enhancements, security patches, and bug fixes to iPhone users and that’s what you should get from iOS 16.6.

Developers are digging through the iOS 16.6 beta right now and they’ve found one potential change on board: iMessage Contact Key Verification.

Apple could add to, or subtract, features from the iOS 16.6 beta as testing progresses and we’ll let you know if there are differences between the beta and the final release.

iOS 16.6 Jailbreak

If you still jailbreak, make sure you avoid the iOS 16.6 beta.

Developers have released a new jailbreak that works with iOS 15.0-iOS 16.2. Unfortunately, the jailbreak doesn’t work with iOS 16.6 and it’s only compatible with the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.

We’ll let you know if that changes.

4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 16.5.1 & 11 Reasons You Should

Install iOS 16.5.1 for Better Security

Install iOS 16.5.1 for Better Security

If security is important to you, think about installing Apple's iOS 16.5.1 update on your iPhone right away.

iOS 16.6 Release Date: Tips & Tricks is a post by Adam Mills from Gotta Be Mobile.

The iOS 16.6 release date is likely weeks away, but some iPhone users might want to start preparing for the software’s arrival right now.

iOS 16.6 is Apple’s sixth milestone update for its iOS 16 operating system and it should bring a mix of new features and under-the-hood improvements to iPhone.

Apple’s pushed iOS 16.6 into beta testing which means developers, and those enrolled in the company’s public Beta Software Program, can download it right now. The Beta Software Program is free to anyone with a compatible device and Apple ID.

As of right now, we expect the iOS 16.6 release date to land in July given that Apple’s currently on its third version of the iOS 16.6 beta.

With the iOS 16.6 release date inching closer, it’s time to start preparing for its arrival. In this guide we’ll outline some tips and tricks that will come in handy as we close in on the iOS 16.6 release date for iPhone.

Prepare for the iOS 16.6 Release Date

If you plan on installing the iOS 16.6 update right away, you should use this time to prepare yourself, and your device, for the installation.

iOS 16.6 will likely require a fairly large download. If you don’t have enough storage available on your iPhone, iOS will temporarily remove downloadable parts of applications installed on your phone. This may not be enough and you’ll then be forced to manually delete files.

If you’re running out of internal storage, do some cleanup. Go into your iPhone’s storage and delete files (photos, apps, etc) you no longer need. This will help make room for the firmware. There’s a chance it improves your iPhone’s overall performance as well.

Data loss issues are fairly rare, but you’ll definitely want to err on the side of caution and backup all of your data before you move your iPhone from iOS 15 to iOS 16 or the current version of iOS 16 to iOS 16.6.

If you want to install iOS 16.6 when it arrives, your iPhone will need a solid charge. Make sure your phone has at least a 50% charge or find a charger.

Finally, make sure you have your Apple ID and other logins handy. There’s always a chance the installation logs you out of apps and services so you’ll want to have those on hand so you can get right back to using them.

Get Familiar with iOS 16.6 & Older Updates

You should get familiar with iOS 16.6 before downloading the final release. This way, you won’t be caught off-guard by the changes on board.

We’ve released a guide that will walk you through all of the known changes on board iOS 16.6. Again, the update should bring a mix of new features, bug fixes, and security patches to iPhone users.

We’ve also released a detailed iOS 16 guide that will take you through many of the latest changes on board the current version of the operating system.

Most People Should Avoid the iOS 16.6 Beta

Installing the iOS 16.6 beta on your iPhone might be tempting, but most people should avoid the beta and wait for the stable release.

Beta software helps Apple fix bugs and performance issues before they become major headaches for millions of iPhone users around the world. And while it’s fun to try out new features before they’re released to the public, iOS beta software can be extremely problematic.

The iOS 16.6 beta is causing problems for some testers and you could run into some of the very same issues if you decide to install it on your iPhone.

While you might be able to fix some issues on your own, other bugs and performance issues will require a fix from Apple down the road.

If you rely on your device to get through a day of school or work, you’ll want to stay put on whatever version of iOS your device was currently running.

Monitor Feedback from the iOS 16.6 Beta

Make sure you monitor feedback from iOS 16.6 beta testers as we push toward the official release.

Monitoring feedback will alert you to potential iOS 16.6 problems and it will also reveal the possible benefits of Apple’s new software. More importantly, it might help you decide if you want to install iOS 16.6 right away or wait a little bit for the smoke to clear.

We’ve seen iOS 16.6 beta feedback emerge on sites like YouTube, Twitter, and the MacRumors forums so check those sites if you’re curious about the software’s performance.

iOS 16.6 Release Time

If you’ve owned an iPhone for a long time there’s a good chance you already know this. For those of you who are new to the iPhone and iOS, here’s your PSA.

Apple typically pushes its iOS software updates out in and around 10AM Pacific. That will likely be the case for the final version of iOS 16.6.

We sometimes see iOS updates roll out 5-10 minutes after 10AM so there’s no need to panic if the software doesn’t popup in your iPhone’s Settings app right away.

Here’s what that looks like for other time zones in the United States:

  • Eastern – 1 PM
  • Central – 12 PM
  • Mountain – 11AM

Keep all of this in mind if you plan to install the final version of iOS 16.6 right away.

iOS 16.6 Download Size

We don’t know how big the iOS 16.6 download will be, but you can expect it to be pretty sizable. Milestone upgrades typically require a significant chunk of space.

You can expect long download times, especially right after Apple pushes the software live. The installation process could take quite a bit of time as well.

Once you pull iOS 16.6 from Apple’s servers, you might notice a prompt asking you to “Install” the software right now or “Later.” While most of you will probably want to install it right away, others might benefit from scheduling the installation.

If you do decide to schedule it, you can choose to install it while you’re sleeping or you can have your device remind you to install it at a later date when you’ve got some free time.

If you do decide to install the iOS 16.6 update overnight, you’ll have to plug your iPhone into a power source.

Prepare for iOS 16.6 Problems

iOS 16.6 will go through an extensive beta process, but the final version won’t be perfect. Far from it.

Common iOS problems include abnormal battery drain, Bluetooth issues, Wi-Fi problems, app instability, UI lag, crashes, and Exchange issues.

These problems appear after every single iOS release and there’s a good chance we’ll see them all popup immediately after iOS 16.6’s arrival.

It’ll be difficult to predict what kind of performance you’ll get from iOS 16.6 so you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared to tackle any issues you encounter on day one and beyond.

We’ve released a list of fixes for common iOS 16 problems. If you don’t consider yourself an iOS expert, you’ll want to bookmark those fixes. We’ve also released guides to fixing bad iOS 16 battery life and iOS 16 performance.

You’ll also want to bookmark or follow Apple Support on Twitter and bookmark the Apple Support page on the company’s website. You should also get familiar with Apple’s Discussion forums.

Learn How to Downgrade

If iOS 16.6 starts causing problems on your iPhone, and you can’t seem to fix the issue(s), you may have to downgrade back to older iOS software.

If you already know how to downgrade, you’re good to go. If you aren’t familiar with the downgrade process, you’ll want to get familiar with it right now. This way, you aren’t scrambling if iOS 16.6 starts acting up on your iPhone.

For more on the downgrade process, have a look at our walkthrough.

Keep Your Apps Updated

If you want the best experience, make sure you keep your apps updated as we approach the iOS 16.6 release date.

Once we get close to the official release, developers will start to roll out support updates. These updates will help stabilize the operating system’s performance and help your device make a smooth transition to new software.

Before you download an app update, make sure you read reviews from users. These reviews will alert you to potential benefits and problems with the latest version.

Take Your Time Installing iOS 16.6

iOS 16.6 is an exciting upgrade and some of you might be tempted to install Apple’s new update right when it drops.

For some of you, particularly users dealing with iOS 16 problems, this might be the best decision. That said, some of you will be better off waiting a few hours, a few days or, in some cases, a few weeks before installing iOS 16.6 on your iPhone.

There are plenty of reasons to skip new iOS software updates on day one. For one, they can wreak havoc on your device’s performance.

Avoid iOS 16.6 If You’re Jailbroken

Avoid the iOS 16.6 update, and beta, if you still jailbreak your phone.

Developers have released a new jailbreak that works with iOS 15.0-iOS 16.2. Unfortunately, the jailbreak doesn’t work with iOS 16.6 yet and it’s only compatible with the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.
